I am a mother of three and have been a Montessori teacher since 2011. In my previous life, I was a modern dancer, having started dancing from about the time I could walk until the birth of my children (well, does one ever really stop dancing?).
It was the year 2000 and I, together with four other women, co-founded a small dance company in Toronto—Aurora Dance Community. Our group choreographed and produced dance performances over the next four years, working in close collaboration with our mentor, the late Patricia Beatty, revered co-founder of Toronto Dance Theatre. Trish Beatty had the most profound impact on my life and I miss her immensely. My dancing days will forever be imprinted on my soul and seep into all facets of my life, including my work with children.
I have survived divorce, cancer and all the things that come with raising three children on my own. These experiences have taken me into the darkness, on a winding journey towards the light.
We humans seek connection, meaning and beauty in life and in art, to lift us out of the everyday mundane and to remind us that we are alive—even if just for a moment.
And so WordDance was born.
